Barbara & David Mertes Memorial Allied Health Scholarship

The Barbara and David Mertes Memorial Allied Health Scholarship is available to Las Positas AND Chabot College students enrolled in the following programs (at either college) leading to an AA, AS, AA-T, AS-T or certificate in the following specific health related fields: Biology (emphasis in Allied Health), Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Services, LVN-RN, Medical Assisting, Nursing & Paramedic Program.
Student must be U.S. Citizen, eligible noncitizen, or is AB540-eligible under the California Dream Act. Foreign students with an Educational Visa are not eligible. Student’s behavior must be compliant with the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Standards of Student Conduct as defined by board policy and administrative procedure.
Candidates must have completed 12 units with a minimum GPA of 3.0, including one course in the LPC required core courses or Chabot year one core class in the Allied Health AA program; be in good academic standing with their respective college campus and be making progress toward the completion of their degree or certificate program. Student’s official major must indicate one of the above listed programs in order to qualify and to be able to apply.

Applicants must be continuing in their program of study at Chabot or Las Positas. The scholarship will pay the unmet financial need for the following year up to $10,000 maximum. The amount of each scholarship will be determined by the student’s official cost of attendance less the value of any grants and/or scholarships awarded.

This scholarship is renewable; once awarded the applicant shall thereafter be preferred as a recipient in subsequent years until such time as the appointing committee determines that the candidate has completed his/her academic program, or ceased to make reasonable progress toward such completion, or has ceased to be regularly enrolled at the institution to which the student is attending.

Award
Awards are up to a maximum of $10,000 each. See description for details. The maximum limit of the scholarship is determined each year by the review committee based on funds available for that award year.
