Valerie Ball Memorial Scholarship
The Valerie Ball Memorial Scholarship celebrates the life and enduring legacy of Valerie Ball, a dedicated Administrative Assistant at Las Positas College for nearly two decades. Valerie passed away suddenly on November 2, 2019, but her memory lives on through the many lives she touched, both professionally and personally.
Valerie was known for her colorful vocabulary, her unwavering loyalty to her friends, and her love of reading and dogs. Born on July 5, 1957, in Bloomington, Indiana, Valerie moved with her family to Reno, Nevada, where she graduated from Reno High School in 1975. She was the heart of her “pack” of lifelong friends, known for her infectious spirit and sense of humor, earning the nickname “Auntie Oops” for her playful pranks.
Later in life, Valerie embraced higher education, attending Las Positas College as a returning student at the age of 43. She earned an Associate Degree and went on to work at the college, serving as the Administrative Assistant to several deans within the Social Sciences, Library, Public Safety, and Career Education Division. Valerie’s office was always filled with candy and an open door for anyone who needed a listening ear or a kind word. Her legacy at LPC is remembered by students and colleagues alike for her warmth, her care, and her steadfast commitment to her community.
This scholarship, established by Valerie’s family, friends, and LPC colleagues, supports students at Las Positas College who embody her love of learning, her kindness, and her dedication to building meaningful connections. Valerie is remembered not only for her professional contributions but also for her passionate love of life, her friendships, and her unwavering support of others.
