Shirley N. Friedel Student Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Charles Graham Nissen, whose family has deep roots in the Livermore Valley, dating back to the 1800s when his ancestors first settled in the area. A lifelong rancher in Livermore, Graham was not only dedicated to the land but also to his community. Throughout his life, he was a passionate philanthropist, particularly supporting causes related to education and healthcare, which he believed were essential for the growth and success of future generations.
This scholarship is a tribute to his daughter, Shirley Friedel, who preceded him in death, and reflects Graham’s enduring commitment to honoring family and fostering opportunities for others. Designed for students pursuing careers in Business, Business Entrepreneurship, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Administrative Assistant or Legal Secretarial programs, this scholarship seeks to support individuals committed to building professional careers in these important fields. Through this memorial scholarship, Graham’s legacy of generosity continues to provide educational opportunities that help students achieve success and contribute to their communities, just as he did in his own life.
