Rotary Club of Pleasanton North - David Cherry and Ed Golden Memorial Scholarship
This endowed memorial scholarship for a Las Positas College student veteran honors the legacies of two past presidents of the Pleasanton North Rotary Club, David Cherry and Ed Golden. David Cherry served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight simulator specialist, and Ed Golden served as an information technology engineer in the U.S. Army. Both men embodied the values of leadership, service, and commitment, which continue to inspire the work of the Rotary Club today.
Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” is central to everything the Pleasanton North Rotary Club does. Known for being a fun and dynamic group with passionate, dedicated members, the club has built a reputation for getting things done while making a positive impact. Members work with a variety of nonprofit organizations in the Tri-Valley area, organizing and volunteering for local aid projects, offering grants through their 501©(3) Foundation, and hosting successful FUNdraising events—including the popular Tri-Valley Turkey Burn run/walk and their A Starry Night gala. In addition to local service, the club supports international aid projects, sending members abroad to collaborate with nonprofit organizations and community leaders around the world.
The Pleasanton North Rotary Club’s commitment to military veterans is reflected in its contributions to causes such as the Veterans Memorial at Pleasanton’s Pioneer Cemetery and the East Bay Stand Down, an initiative that provides critical resources to homeless veterans. This memorial scholarship, created in honor of David Cherry and Ed Golden, furthers the club’s mission of service by supporting student veterans at LPC. It provides these veterans with the opportunity to pursue higher education as they transition from military to civilian life, empowering them to continue their service to the community in new ways.
