Promising First Responders Scholarship

This scholarship for first responder students was established by Dr. Patricia “Pat” Wheeler, known at Las Positas College for her visiting therapy dogs. All her dogs have received the AKC Therapy Dogs Distinguished title and Good Citizen Awards. They have have provided comfort at assisted living homes, homeless shelters, with returning veterans and children with chronic illness, and more. She has authored two books, “Successful Tails” and “Therapy Dogs in Action” about her experiences. Dr. Wheeler is also an accomplished flute musician and has played in many concerts. She is active in local service organizations including Phi Delta Kappa, Daughters of the American Revolution and volunteering for Veterans Affairs. She enjoys travelling and has been to 50 countries and all continents except Australia.
