Linda Lucas Memorial Library Scholarship

The Linda Lucas Performing Arts Scholarship was established in recognition of Dr. Linda Lucas’s lifelong dedication to education and her significant contributions to the development of Las Positas College. Dr. Lucas began her career in elementary education before joining the faculty at Chabot College’s Valley Campus in 1975, which later became Las Positas College. As the Dean of Instruction and Learning Resources, she played an instrumental role in the early stages of the campus’s growth, helping establish a strong foundation for the college’s academic and cultural programs.

Dr. Lucas was a champion of the performing arts, providing leadership and support for the college’s arts programs during its formative years. Her commitment to the arts continued as she transitioned to the role of Dean of Academic Services, where she oversaw the creation and implementation of the college’s new library facilities, a project she helped design. Additionally, she was a key figure in the introduction of educational technology at the college, ensuring that students had access to the resources they needed to succeed in an evolving academic environment.

Beyond her work at Las Positas College, Dr. Lucas was a devoted community leader. She was an active member of various Tri-Valley organizations, often serving on community boards and committees. Her involvement in these organizations reflected her commitment to supporting education and enriching the lives of those in her community.

Dr. Lucas’s passion for lifelong learning didn’t end with her retirement from Las Positas College in 2000. She pursued a Juris Doctorate from John F. Kennedy University and, after earning her law degree, embarked on a second career as a practicing attorney. Her ability to continuously challenge herself and make meaningful contributions to both the academic and professional fields serves as an inspiration to all.

The Linda Lucas Scholarship honors her legacy by providing financial support to Las Positas College students who demonstrate exceptional talent, dedication, and passion for the arts. This scholarship reflects Dr. Lucas’s belief in the transformative power of education and the arts, and continues to encourage students in their pursuit of excellence in these fields.
