Halliday Family Scholarship
Karen Halliday served as the third president of Las Positas College from 2001 to 2008, leaving a lasting legacy on both the campus and the community it serves. Under her leadership, student enrollment doubled, reflecting her commitment to enhancing access to higher education and fostering student success. Ms. Halliday’s guiding motto, “Change, Challenge, and Opportunity,” captured the essence of her vision for the college and for higher education in general. She believed in the power of transformative change and the importance of constantly evolving to meet the needs of students and the community.
During her tenure, Ms. Halliday was known for her deep passion for education and her unwavering dedication to improving the lives of students. She worked tirelessly to develop strong partnerships with both the community and the business sector, helping to create new programs and expand the college’s reach. Her leadership also focused on the growth of Las Positas College’s facilities, curriculum, and support services. She instilled a sense of pride in the college, emphasizing the importance of a nurturing, student-centered environment where both faculty and staff were dedicated to fostering educational excellence.
As she prepared for retirement in 2007, Karen Halliday expressed a deep sense of fulfillment from her work at Las Positas College, but also a desire to pursue new opportunities with her family. She viewed her next chapter as a way to embrace new challenges, much like the approach she advocated for in her professional life. In honor of her legacy and the impact she had on the college, the Halliday Family Scholarship was established to support students who embody her values of perseverance, growth, and dedication to higher learning. This scholarship helps students who demonstrate academic excellence, a passion for education, and a desire to contribute positively to their communities—just as Karen Halliday did throughout her career.
