Coach Costello Basketball Scholarship
Tony J. Costello dedicated over 30 years to basketball coaching at various levels, leaving a profound impact on the lives of countless athletes. As the head basketball coach at Las Positas College, he built a program from the ground up, guiding his teams to significant successes and playoff appearances. His leadership extended beyond the basketball court, as he also taught kinesiology and physical education, sharing his passion for athletics and personal development with students both in and out of the classroom.
In addition to his work at Las Positas, Coach Costello served as the president of the California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association from 2003 to 2005, where he made invaluable contributions to the community of coaches and players across the state. His career was defined by his unwavering commitment to his players, many of whom went on to play at four-year institutions, thanks to his guidance and mentorship. Known for his ability to balance academic and athletic success, Tony was also a staunch advocate for the academic development of his players, ensuring they were well-equipped for success both on the court and in the classroom.
In recognition of his immense contributions to the sport of basketball and the community, Tony was inducted posthumously into the California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. His legacy continues to inspire those who knew him, and this scholarship serves as a testament to his commitment to excellence, both in athletics and in life.
